Creating a strong Advisory Board for your Non-Profit company can be challenging. In this interview, Susan Hammond talks about the challenges for non-profit advisory boards and how important it is to have focused, strong boards. This interview is with Lisa Morrissey of The Non-Profit Toolbox.
Half of Susan’s working career has been with non-profit organizations including 3 1/2 years as the CFO of the Fuller Craft Museum (www.fullercraft.org) in Brockton. When looking at the financials of an organization, they tell you a story that gives the current health of the organization and insights into the future. She tells Lisa that some of the positive traits of successful organizations include:
1. They staff appropriately
2. They maintain strong Professional Development
3. Pay competitive salaries
4. Get the Board involved in Fundraising
Susan has a new book coming out designed to help organizations create strong Advisory Boards: Advisory Board Kit: A Comprehensive Guide to Establishing an Advisory Board. It should be available by the end of November, there maybe a few advanced copies available at the Non-Profit Toolbox’s October 22 event.
