SSWBN Educational Foundation Scholarship applications available!

Are you a “mature” woman 35 years or older, living on the South Shore of Massachusetts, and wanting to or in a career transition?  Do you know someone that is?

The SSWBN Educational Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications to be awarded this spring for women currently enrolled in or beginning an educational program.

Last June the Foundation gave out 6 scholarships of $1000 each.

Who is the SSWBN Educational Foundation?

A board of six women dedicated to raising funds for the education of transitioning women, and educational grants for members of the SSWBN.

“Helping women achieve professional growth is at the core of the South Shore Women’s Business Network Educational Foundation,” said President Elizabeth Pineault, who noted that the foundation awarded five scholarships last year and hopes to award even more this year. “By providing support to mature women who are undergoing a career transition, we hope to help them accomplish their goals and achieve their dreams.”

Through the years they have helped:

• A single mother and domestic abuse survivor become enrolled in an Administrative Information System Program at a local college.
• An immigrant who came to this country with the sole purpose of providing a better life and a better education for her children, is now going for her BA at Curry College.
• A 38 year-old mother who, had supported herself and daughter as a playground aid, cafeteria worker, and teaching assistant, was able to get her degree in Special Education and is currently teaching full time.

Success through Partnering and Collaboration

The Non-Profit Toolbox partnered with the SSWBN Educational Foundation for their first Mini-Conference.  The Educational Foundation helped promote the event through their network and provided support at the event.  The help of the Foundation was instrumental in making this event a success and we were able to donate a portion of the revenue generated from the event to their scholarship fund.

Last year the foundation was able to award six scholarship to women in career transitions.  In addition the foundation gives out smaller grants to SSWBN members for continuing education.

Lisa Morrissey interviews the Non-Profit Toolbox’s keynote speaker, Kathleen Burns Kingsbury owner of KBK Connections.

Kathleen is a money intelligence expert, an internationally published author, certified coach, licensed mental health expert and professional speaker.  Kathleen’s company, KBK Connections, Inc., provides coaching, consultation and training to non-profit and for-profit businesses, as well as to individuals, in order that they become empowered to ask for - and get paid – what they are worth. For over 15 years Kathleen has worked in the non-profit community and has helped individuals and organizations to be more confident and successful in their fundraising efforts.

President, Elizbeth Pineault gives Scholarships at SSWBN Celebration

The Non-Profit Toolbox is pleased that we have partnered with the SSWBN Educational Foundation for the October 22 ½ day event in Rockland, MA.

The Educational Foundation, Inc. was founded over 10 years ago and has been dedicated to making a difference in the lives of women, enabling them to transition to a more rewarding career, by providing scholarships for education for women age 35 and older in Plymouth, Bristol, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Middlesex Counties in Massachusetts. The Foundation also offers grants to SSWBN members for continuing education.

As the Toolbox grows into different geographical areas, we will partner with other non-profit groups that will help us get the word of our work out to their members.

We will be reaching out to non-profit organizations in other areas, and I thought that I would share with you what some of our criterion is:

• Regional focused
• Directly benefits local people
• Willing to mail/email promotional material to their database in a timely manner
• Active Board of Directors
• A non-political cause
• Willing to supply 3-4 Volunteers the day of the event for registration

Benefits of association with the Non-Profit Toolbox:

• Exposure to other groups/people – a table and flyer to every attendee,
• Emails, logo and information about the group on the Non-profit Toolbox site
• Promotional Flyers of the event with the partnership mentioned
• Volunteers will be able to attend some of the workshops/seminars for free
• Portion of proceeds to the organization

In the effort of full disclosure, I want people to know that I have been on the Board of Directors for this non-profit ever since I heard about it at the SSWBN Celebration five years ago, and that Elizabeth Pineault, is also the President of this worthy organization.

When The Non-profit Toolbox chose the Educational Foundation, we were definitely concerned that it would seem “self-serving.”  It is without a doubt difficult to “wear two hats at once” and we are cautious not to ever blur the lines.  But it is our belief was that it was really a great fit, given the above criterion.  There are other groups we considered, but in the end, the fact that the Educational Foundation could benefit from the exposure, plus the trust that they could deliver the personnel support we needed, out-weighed our concerns (with each hat on).

These events will only successful if everyone helps to get the word out about. We need the Educational Foundation’s support, as well as the whole SSWBN for this event to succeed.

Announcing the creation our new company: The Toolbox, Inc.

It started as an epiphany…an a-ha moment.  And I have the SSWBN (South Shore Women’s Business Network) to thank.  I was not planning to go to the monthly May breakfast, but I went anyway, and half way through the introductions it struck me that a number of people were trying to market to a similar group that I wanted to reach.  I grabbed one of my friends there, and asked if the idea to provide educational seminars to non-profits seemed like a good idea, and that maybe I would work on expanding the idea.

Putting to use the SSWBN tagline: Contacts, Coaching, and Collaboration, I got together a few people from various backgrounds, tossed ideas around and in two months we launched the parent company, The Tool Box, Inc. to facilitate our many ideas.

The Toolbox was founded from the idea of bring together professionals and use their expertise to help different groups grow personally, professionally, and help create a sense of community for their group.  The Non-profit Toolbox is our first venture.

Everywhere we turn there is a non-profit trying to educate, raise awareness, and raise funds for their cause, and our vision is to create a place where that information can be found easily via the web, providing workshops and seminars, and creating an environment for networking (both on and offline).  Bringing businesses and non-profit groups together, and everyone grows.
