Slideshare has run a regular contest, “The World’s Best Presentation,” and this year is adding a nonprofit category.

I have been a fan of slideshare ever since I put up a presentation about Linkedin, and slideshare chose it as a daily “Feature” and instead of the 20 or so that saw the presentation at the event I presented at, it now has 12 Favorites, 133 Downloads, and 4,384 Total Views. You spend a lot of time putting together a presentation, and it should be out there for people to see!  In addition to creating another presence for your organization on the web, remember to embed the presentation on your site or in a blog post to create an inbound link to improve search for your site.  I also use slideshare search for ideas and inspiration, and to learn more about just about everything. So go out and create, who knows your story may win!

Last night Lisa Morressey and Reiko Beach from The Non-Profit Toolbox gave a presentation on Linkedin to the South Shore Ad Club.  They worked hard on the presentation and it went over pretty well.   In addition they uploaded the slide show to slideshare.net. This morning we got an email from slideshare saying:

Increase Your Web Presence

One of our most popular presentations is how to use the many different tools on the web to increase you presence on the web.  In this simple talk we explain how to use Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr and Blogging into your overall marketing mix.  If you do any public speaking you also need to post your presentation on slideshare and embed it back into your blog, facebook and linkedin.  Slideshare is to slide shows that YouTube is to video.  We are constantly surprised at how many people view slideshare and how much it extends web presence.

Beth Kanter: Writer, Blogger: Beth’s Blog: How Nonprofits Organizations Can Use Social Media to Power Social Networks for Change, one of the longest running and most popular blogs for nonprofits. She is a frequent contributor to many nonprofit technology web sites and magazines, and has authored chapters in several books, more here about Beth.

She was actually one of the first group of people that made me realize what an impact social media was going to have.  I saw her speak at a Camera Company expo a few years ago.  Over the years she has explored many aspects of using social media, and the comments on her blog come from many people prominent in the field, so check out her blog.
