Better Fundraising for Small Nonprofits

Home» Fundraising » Better Fundraising for Small Nonprofits

Jane B. Ford

The challenge of raising money for small nonprofits, many of which have no designated development staff, is a topic of concern for many of my clients.  I have contemplated writing a book to address this subject but never made the time to do so.  Now, I can take this task off my “Someday I will…” list because Amy Eisenstein, CFRE has written that book and has done so exceedingly well.

50 A$KS in 50 Weeks is the book’s title and the subtitle is “A Guide to Better Fundraising for Your Small Development Shop”.  Eisenstein’s writing is clear, concise and filled with practical guidelines, examples, charts and forms that offer development novices useful ways to develop their skills in the field. Her enthusiasm for raising money to support nonprofits fills every page.

The audience for this book is not only new fundraising staff but also experienced development professionals who want to expand their thinking and try new ways to increase their fundraising success. In addition, I believe this book should be mandatory reading for board members who are sincere about raising the money needed to support the mission of their nonprofit.

Next week, I am meeting with founders of two new nonprofits and I will share this book with each of them and strongly encourage them to share it with their boards. These new organizations will have a solid understanding of small shop fundraising in less than two months if all board members read just one chapter a week.
