The Chronicle of Philanthropy carried an article last week about an effort by Independent Sector, BBB Wise Giving Alliance, and Guidestar USA to standardize the framework by which charities are evaluated and describe themselves to the public.

The five questions are:

What is your organization aiming to accomplish?

What are your strategies for making this happen?

What are your organization’s capabilities for doing this?

How will your organization know if you are making progress?

What have and haven’t you accomplished so far?

Hopefully boards of directors, donors, and foundations are asking these questions already but in case they aren”t now is the time to start.
