Redesigning Your Website

Important Considerations for Website Redesign

Yesterday Reiko and I participated on an excellent webinar by Hubspot on website redesign.  We”ve been following Hubspot for years and even took (and past) their Inbound Marketing University Certificate program last summer.  At the beginning of the presentation Mike Volpe from Hubspot address how often your site should be redesigned.  He reminded everyone that you see your site more often that clients, prospects and donors, so you will get tired of the site quicker than most everyone else.  Site owners typically get tired of their site after about 6 months while users take time to get used to the site and like consistency, so only change your site to develop more traffic and leads.  We agree with pretty much everything they presented and just want to highlight 3 major considerations.

The Redesign Needs to Attract More Clients and Donors

So the most important things have to do with SEO and adding valuable content so your site is easier to be found. Adding more valuable content is more important than how it looks.  You should think about spending more of your redesign dollars there.

The New Site Should Convert More Leads

To do this you should have actionable items on your site.  Thinks like signing up for your newsletter, blog, facebook page, twitter, youtube channel.  It should have landing pages for each of your products and direct links from your newsletter, email, blog, pay per click advertising, etc.

It Should Have Measurable Goals

The goal of the redesign is to attract more customers and create more leads.  If you don”t know what those numbers are now, finding out what those numbers is where you need to start.  Then create goals to increase traffic and leads.  Wouldn”t you like to attract more potential donors and donations?

I”ve embedded the powerpoint of the presentation below.  If you would like to see other slide shows from Hubspot you can find them here.
